The
Colonial Dutch loved these cinnamon sugar butter cookies. They
are crisp, light and have a decorative pattern created by the
cinnamon and sugar being pressed into the cookie before baking.
Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1 cup
granulated sugar
1
large egg
1
teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups
all-purpose flour
2
teaspoons cream of tartar
1
teaspoon baking soda
1/4
teaspoon salt
Cinnamon Sugar
1/4
cup sugar
2
teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350
°. In a large bowl, cream the
butter
and
sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Sift in the flour, cream
of
tartar, baking soda and salt. Stir to form a firm dough.
2. Mix sugar and
cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll a
tablespoonful
of dough into a ball, then in cinnamon sugar.
Repeat
with the rest of the dough.
3. Arrange on a
baking sheet; press with the base of a glass.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15
minutes.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies
